Sowing the Seed Of Social Harmony

In commemorating the yearly International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Lagos State government of Nigeria on Tuesday distributed wheel chairs and crutches reportedly worth over 50 millions of naira to the physically challenged! My heart leaped for joy as I read through the pages of the newspaper reporting this generous act of the government! It truly shows that we have a government that cares. Howbeit, it aches my heart each time I come across young people with disabilities who underrates themselves giving in to menial, dirty jobs such as street begging etc. They see no abilities in disabilities.

One of our projects as a group is to reach out to such persons, assist them and motivate them to see the greatness in themselves. Hence, my joy knew no bound this morning after reading through the commitment of our government to help the disabled. Although, not every one of them is a beneficiary, but I’m sure that the lucky ones who received the mobility aid appliances would remain grateful to the Government for such an act. I’m also grateful as a friend of the disabled for this gesture. I believe it’s going to create a good platform for self-independent and self development. It’s going to challenge the menace of begging for alms, especially on the streets and the highways.

Our world would become a better place, if only we learn to see ourselves as meet help and as brothers and sisters regardless of our colours, tribes, abilities or disabilities. Every one of us can replicate this wonderful act of assisting the less priviledged in our communities, we don’t have to wait till we’ve got a lot of riches. I believe that a little deed of love and kindness would go a long way in transforming the lives of others.

“Let us remember always that when we give a little to help the less priviledged, we are sowing the seed of social harmony”

Do something good for someone today. . . . . . Yes, You CAN

Cheers!
